Bouncer
Written by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Art by François Boucq.
A one-armed saloon keeper survives a Western built from family violence and revenge.
Overview
The Bouncer works in Barro City, where his past and the lawless world around him keep dragging him into conflict. Jodorowsky and Boucq launched the series in 2001. It uses the frontier setting for a harsh family saga rather than a nostalgic horse opera.
Why It Matters
The work pushes the Western toward grotesque melodrama. Its protagonist’s disability is part of his physical situation, but the story’s deeper pressure comes from inherited violence and impossible loyalties.
Genre & Themes
Revisionist Western, revenge tale and psychological thriller combine. The stories revel in danger while showing the cost of cycles of retaliation.
Art & Visual Identity
Boucq’s detailed figures and expansive landscapes balance beauty with brutality. His faces and bodily movement give even outrageous turns material force.
